EMPRESS OF IRELAND PROJECT

On may 29, 1914, the ship MSS Empress of Ireland sunk near Ste-Luce-sur-mer on the south shore of  St.Laurence river.  On the  1477 people aboard, 1012 perished in 14 minutes.

I would like to honor those victims that came from Canada, United States, England, Australia and other countries.  I have the list of all passengers and crew.

This project will be under the Category:  This_Day_In_History_May_29.

The Space page will talk about the ship and the collision that occurred that night with links to history sites.  It will also be linked to all sub categories directly in the text of the page.

Sub categories:

Cemeteries where the victims are buried. We will add pictures of Tombstones. They will be connected with the Global Cemetery Project.

A sub category will identify each individual profile classified by the name.

A sub category will identify each individual profile by the class they were on the ship. There were three classes and the crew plus the band of the Salvation Army.

Note: I would like to make it in both french and english.

This sounds like a great project, Guy. I have let Mags know once you have interest built up, I will help you get it set up as a project!
Yes, I beleive in the project.  The Titanic had all the attention of the World while the Empress of Ireland was not noticed even if it is the greatest maritime incident in Canada.

I will be very happy to work with other wikitreeers to realize this project.
Abby and Guy -

If you'd like to make this a subproject of the Canadian History Project, I'd be glad to help set it up and offer guidance.
Absolutely, it has to go  in Canada History Project.   Let's get a few interested people and start :)

This sounds very interesting Guy!  I never realized that there was such a huge lost ship in Canada in the early 20th Century!  Mags

Thanks for raising the visibility of this tragedy. I'd never heard of it.

It also looks like there's a lot of support for it.

Before you go further, I recommend you check with the categorization project folks who manage the way categories are named. The category you're considering is very different from the way most categories are used.

You might also want to see how the Mayflower project uses categories. You're talking about a groups of passengers on a particular ship, yes?

In any case, good luck with the project. I look forward to learning more.

Thanks Jullaine for your answer.

As I am a member of the Categorization, yes we will discuss as how it will be done. But I think it should be categorized like the Titanic Project more than the Mayflower.

And we have great people that will help at the beginning like Abby, Eric, and Mags. I already have 3 members plus myself to start the project.
Guy, il me fait plaisir de répondre à ta requète même si je n'ai aucune idée du travail que tu attends de moi. J'attendrai donc la suite.

It is time that this so large tragedy be recalled as it was thrown in the shaddow of the great World War I conflict which started the same year.

I'll do what I can. Merci de m'inviter.
Merci Gaston.

Je te tiens au courant des événements.
