The Acadian Project develops all the profiles of French people who lived in Acadia, Nouvelle-France.  This area covered Nova Scotia, Cape Breton, Prince Edward Island, parts of New Brunswick and Maine, and Newfoundland between 1604 and 1763.  You can find out more on our Project page (full of lots of good information) plus two pages with links to many good sources together with citations already built for you.

2.     If you want to follow the project activities and receive updates and information, please apply to join our Google Group open to anyone https://groups.google.com/g/wikitree-acadians

HI, John, please check the project page for qualifications.  We'd love to have assistance when you are ready.

I would like to help out however my genealogy skills are very raw.  I know I am a Cajun - Pierre Thibodeau, Simon LeBlanc, and Jacques Bourgeous. I am not even certain how to gain access to the records to help on though.
by Denise Hancock G2G1 (1.5k points)
Hi, Denise, we can help you with that!  Do you have a type of project in mind?  I could suggest one . . .
Perhaps something that would also include my ancestors while helping other Cajuns.  Something really simple to get started.  What would be your suggestion?
What about adding some of Simon LeBlanc's children?  Also your ancestor Sylvester LeBlanc needs some children entered too.  I can give you more details in a PM if that sounds interesting.  That would get you well into Cajun territory!

to join Acadians Project
by John H. G2G Crew (810 points)

Hi John,

We would love to have you join but first you need to be pre-1700 certified since many Acadians are pre-1700 as indicated in the membership requirements on the Acadians Project Page. Let us know when you have your certification and tell us if there is a particular project that you would like to work on. There are suggestions on the Project Page.

I would like to participate! I am a descendant of the Coste & Brian’s families in Nova Scotia/Cape Breton.
Hi Denise. Thank you for your interest in the Acadians Project. I will contact you via email.

Oui, cela me ferait grand plaisir.  Je suis apparenté, comme tant d'autres, à presque toute l'Acadie par le sang ou le mariage. Mon arrière grand-mère Lucy Thibodeau.

I would like to help but i struggle greatly with Biographies on here and getting them to the correct format. I am fine working on someone outside of my family as well but I am certain I won't be able to get a biography, sources or references properly formatted.  This may make me of little use but I thought I would offer anyway.

I'm also related to quite a few Acadians & would be happy to turn over any profiles to someone with better skills.

I would like to add the 11 children of Joseph Meunier-798, who married Marie Joseph LeBlanc, in 1734 at Grand Pre, Acadia.  I don't know what the pre-qualifications are, but I have been researching genealogy for about 25 years, and have the "Pre-1700" badge.  I believe that I am quite thorough at documenting source citations.  Where can I find the list of standardized Acadian family names?
by Yvon Pitre G2G2 (2.0k points)
edited by Yvon Pitre
Yvon, we'd love to have you work on this family.  Only 7 of the 11 children are on WikiTree.  The standard names (thank you for asking about this) are here:

https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Space:Acadian_Standard_Names&public=1

Meunier is spelled just as you have it.
Since Meunier-798 is Acadian Project "protected", how would I create and connect the additional profiles for his otherchildren?
Are we talking about the right Meunier?  I don't see a PPP on 798.  You should be able to add children.  If that's still a problem let me know by PM and we can try to figure it out.
No, I think I found out how to add profiles.  Sorry.
No worries. Let me know if you need anything else. Can you do something for the new children?  Please add the Acadian project box. {{Acadian}}

Then I can the project as a co-manager so we can monitor activity and suggestions (we do this for all Acadian profiles). Thank you!
Hi Cindy.  Could you check that I added the 3 additional children of Meunier-798 properly?  Thank you.
They look great!  I like your biography on Mathurin.  On Victal I thought maybe the name with a c in it was a typo but it was so nice to go to the source and see it clearly there.

If you want more information about the family, you might want to check this out:  https://gw.geneanet.org/katheriot?lang=en&pz=frederick+joseph&nz=theriot&ocz=1&p=joseph&n=meunier  We like her work because she uses many citations.

You and I are cousins through Marie Elisabeth Amiel of Quebec, though it thought it would be through the d'Abbadie family.

Thank you for your contributions.  Do you have other Acadians in your tree?
My father was definitely Acadian, descendant from Jean Pitre (1671 Acadian Census, Port Royal, Acadia).  My mother may have been a descendant of Paul Meunier, but even if she was, I don't know if she would be considered Acadian (since Paul was baptised on 23 February 1676, Isle Orlean, Quebec).

I would certainly be interested in this project.  I descend from Etienne Rivet.  I am fairly new to WikiTree so I do not have 100 entries.  I have done extensive work in Ancestry.com.

Welcome to WikiTree, Erich. It's the best place to discover your ancestry and Acadian lineage and we love finding new cousins and friends. I will get in touch with you via email.

Well, apparently, I had never applied to be part of the Acadia Project cheeky

I'm a direct descendant of at least 26 "famille souches" and I believe I that even though most profiles are already well sourced, that I could still contribute in improving some of them.

If you still need help, I offer my services.

by Living Boudreau G2G6 Mach 6 (64.6k points)
You did have a badge! I removed it temporarily in February, upon your request, when you announced you were taking a leave of absence. We're thrilled you're back. Thank you for your excellent work on Acadian profiles and your dedication to the Boudreau Name Study.

Thank you!!!smiley

Very glad you are backAndrea. I always appreciate seeing your edits on Acadian profiles.

Thank you,  Cindy smiley

Most of my ancestors lived in Quebec and environs. I'm just starting to learn about my Acadian forebears (ie https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Roy-1392). I'd like to join the project, but it will be a while before I'm able to be helpful. I think I'm qualified, and I am willing to add information as my research continues. Thanks for considering!
by Jim Rice G2G Crew (720 points)
Hi, Jim, how are you feeling about your time and experience now, and your ability to contribute to the project?  I would be happy to teach you some formatting and about sources for Acadians.  I see quite a few Quebecers in your history so I suspect we are cousins as I have many of those as well.

I am connected in a number of ways (well, not surprisingly!).  Given this, I am happy to work on whatever needs attention.  I can also speak French so can help translate documents if needed.  I am also a sociology professor so I am dedicated to proper citations and triangulation of sources.  Thank you for your consideration!
by Stephanie Kent G2G Crew (470 points)
Hi, Stephanie, thank you so much for your interest and the offer of your skills to the Acadians project.  Project members make contributions in a variety of ways.  Since you speak french, would you consider reviewing the following documents and add the relevant information (and source) to profiles?

https://www-umoncton-ca.translate.goog/umcm-ceaac/node/9?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en

If you would do even just one to see how useful it is, that would be fantastic.  If you do, we could keep a list and mark them completed as you go.

Please let me know.  There are other things as well, as you can review on our project page.  See the section on we need help with.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Acadians

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

Hello,

I would like to participate in this project. I am a descendant of Pierre Arsenault and focus on Acadians of Prince Edward Island / Isle Saint Jean.

I am looking at upgrading the biographies in the accounts that I manage in the near future therefore I will be reading up on the templates and formatting guides. Perhaps I could assist with formatting biographies for the project.
by Robert Arsenault G2G1 (1.2k points)
Badge is on your profile now.  I've given a comment on your profile with links to Isle Saint-Jean parish records and also to the list of profiles that need formatting.  Your help in either of these areas would be so appreciated!

My mothers ancestors are all French Canadians, They lived in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI. I have been involved with their genealogy for decades on other ancestry sites. I intend to ensure that all of the many Acadian ancestors are properly sourced and correct. I would love to join the Acadian Project to help. I will work to make sure I follow all of the projects goals.

I'd like to join the Acadian project. I'm a direct descendant of 52 of the original 86 first families, born and raised on the Atchafalaya River. I have been a Wikitreer since Feb 2022, 5400 contributions, 3091 connections. I am pre-1700 certified. I have completed the Profile Improvement Voyage.
I would like to begin by bringing all of the Acadian profiles in my family up to the desired standard of the project.

Hi, I have joined your group, it’s nice to meet everyone. I am going slowly because this is new to me and also very important. My grandmother was the last of my line to be born in Acadia, but I still feel Acadian.

I use a program called rootsmagic 9. I have started a tree using only Sigogne Family Census records. The first family i entered and compared to FamilySearch does not line up. There are errors….should I still keep building a tree using this source?
by Kathy Adkins G2G1 (1.5k points)
Family Search trees are family trees and may or may not have reliable sources.  ON WikiTree we expect sources that confirm relationships and dates with the goal that it is more accurate.  Can you give me the profile ID of one of your WikiTree family members and I'll take a look at what you have?

Hi! I would love to join the Acadia Project!! I have many Acadian direct ancestors such as Hébert-5723, my 8th great-grandmother and so many others, especially in the Nova Scotia area. Of course, I'll work on any Acadian profile given the chance! Thank you!!

by Kara McCain G2G6 (7.2k points)
Hi, Kara, thank you for your interest.  As you know from reading the Project page, members of the project contribute beyond their own families, which you seem enthusiastic to do.  I will be in touch via PM to explore what you might enjoy doing.
