Captain Charles J. Rider was the Captain of the 106th New York Infantry Regiment. He was born about 1818 as this is estimated based on the fact he enlisted at age 44 in 1862. Need help with adding his sources. He has been mentioned in a court martial for multiple charges however was found not guilty on all charges; See dmna. He was found Not Guilty and returned to duty.

Does he have a gravestone?

What was his enlistment date and muster out date?

Any help on his profile and genealogy is appreciated.

Afternoon !!
I found a few pieces from his enlistment on Ancestry. There was one record that indicated that he was from Vermont and born in 1811 but am not too sure of this as the others list him being born in New York. I added notes about this so that hopefully someone can confirm these tid bits. I did find consistent enlistment dates so I added this to the template. Ogdensburg, New York came up twice but there was one for Monroe. I'm not from the area so I am not sure if they are really close together or not.

I did a search for him on Find A Grave and there were some 200 sources. 4 of them are in New York. If he was from Vermont he would most likely be buried there is he returned home. He did survive the war so the next question where did he relocate to after the war.

Oh and a record indicates that he was married but no name listed !

Seems to be some info with the court martial and him being found not guilty maybe there is more about him and his life. He was ranked higher so possible more info available

Found this nygenweb; occupation: Farmer; resigned in 1863. He is listed as being 50 years old in the 1860 census.
