Biography

James Whitecross was baptised on March 13, 1748 in North Berwick, Scotland. His parents were named as Peter Whitecross and Alison Wood. Witnesses at the baptism were John Whitecross and James Wood.^[1]

He married Mary Crawford sometime before 1778, probably in North Berwick. They had the following children:

• Jean Whitecross, born May 28, 1778, baptised June 7, 1778, in North Berwick, Scotland. The father was a mason. The witnesses were the Congregation.^[2]
• James Whitecross, born November 14, 1782, baptised November 24, 1782, in Tranent, Scotland. The parents lived in Cockenzie. Witnesses were Richard Whitecross and Peter Whitecross.^[3]
• Mary Whitecross, born September 27, 1785, baptised October 2, 1785, in Tranent, Scotland. The parents lived in Cockenzie. Witnesses were David Sim and Alexander Barber.^[4]
