Biography

Lloyd was born on 28 September 1875^[1] at Awamoko, Otago, New Zealand, and his birth was registered in the last quarter of 1875 at Oamaru^[2]. He was the third son of Eyre Evans and Charlotte Lees.

In 1896 he was a labourer living at Hull street with his brother Eyre a miller, both being registered on the Oamaru Electoral Roll^[3]. Also on that Roll were his grandfather George, a gentleman living at Reed Street, his uncle George, a horse trainer living in Oamaru, and his brother Percy, a compositor living at Aln Street.

He did not marry and had no known children.

Lloyd committed forgery against his brother James in 1902^[4]. The following year he pleaded guilty when brought before the Court, and was placed on probation and ordered to pay reparations^[5]. But he failed to adhere to the conditions^[6]. He was brought before the court again in 1904 and then sent to prison.

In 1909 he was before the Palmerston North Court, again for forgery^[7]. He was using two aliases at this time. There was another appearance in October 1909 for forgery when he was remanded to the Christchurch Supreme Court after pleading guilty^[8]. He was sentenced to twelve months. He was before the court again for false pretences in 1911^[9].

It appears that Lloyd took on the name of George Lloyd at some stage.

George Lloyd died on 3 February 1927^[10] at Auckland. He was buried in Hillsborough Cemetery, Hillsborough, Auckland^[11].
