Biography

Eva was born on 10 May 1880[1] at Ōamaru, Otago, New Zealand, and her birth was registered in the second quarter of 1880 at Ōamaru[2]. She was the fourth daughter of Eyre Frederick Fitzgeorge Evans and Charlotte Lees.

She married Clarence James on 22 May 1920[3]. They had two children.

By 1925 she was living in Christchurch at 111 Richmond Terrace where her husband was working as a compositor, both being registered on the Avon Electoral Roll[6]. The family then went to Dunedin where her husband had work in various offices[7]. They moved next to Balclutha where she was living at View Street with her husband, still a compositor, both being on the Clutha General Electoral Roll[8]. Their final move was to Owaka, where he established the News, the first newspaper actually published in the Catlins district[7].

Her husband died on 16 August 1936[9] at Owaka. His life was reported on in the Otago Daily Times[7]. She was still listed as living at Owaka on the Clutha General Electoral Roll in 1938[10].

In 1957 she was a widow living at 6 Ballance Street, Dunedin, being registered on the Mornington Main Electoral Roll[11].

Eva died on 3 August 1957[12] at Dunedin, Otago. She was buried in Ōamaru Old Cemetery, Ōamaru, Block 103, Plot 7[13].
