Ethel Taylor Broomfield was born in 1868 and was baptised on 5 or 6 May 1868 at Southampton, Hampshire, England. She was the daughter of Captain John Broomfield and Hannah Morris.[1][2]
On 11 March 1892 in Surry Hills, she married Charles Short Salmond.[3]

Ethel divorced Charles in 1904 on the grounds of desertion.[5][6]
ROBERTSON-SALMOND -May 17, at the residence of the bride's mother, by the Rev J F Blair, James Struan, elder son of the late James Robertson of Tumut, to Ethel Taylor, fourth daughter of the late Captain John Broomfield of Glentworth, Balmain.[8]
