Biography

Adeline Broomfield was born in 1869 and was baptised at Southampton, Hampshire.[1] She was the daughter of John Broomfield and Hannah Morris.

She travelled to the Colony of New South Wales on the ship, Restless, with her father as the ship's master and her mother and siblings aboard, arriving in Sydney on 2 November 1870.[2]

On 18 January 1893 in Balmain, she married Percy Rundle.[3]

FASHIONABLE WEDDINGS.
RUNDLE—BROOMFIELD.—The marriage of Mr. Percival Rundle, son of Mr. J. B. Rundle, M.L.C., of Pott's Point, with Miss Adeline Broomfield, youngest daughter of Captain Broomfield, of Glentworth, Balmain, took place on January 18. The church of St. Mary's, Balmain, was beautifully decorated for the occasion, and the ceremony took place under a canopy of green festoons, from which wedding belle were suspended. The bride's dress was of rich white satin, trimmed with Limerick lace. The bridesmaids, Miss Burdekin, Miss Broomfield, Miss Ruthven, and Miss Rundle, wore white silk crepe over rose pink silk, with large puffs of pink velvet on the sleeves, the trained skirts being finished with velvet of the same shade. Their hats were of white silk guipure, with pink velvet and guipure trimming. About 100 guests were present at the breakfast, which was served in the ballroom at Glentworth. The bridal pair received a number of handsome presents, and the bridesmaids received some dainty gold lucky-bells from the bride and gold bangles from the bridegroom.[4]
SYDNEY SOCIETY GOSSIP.
January 20.
Mr Dear Rita,
We had quite a pretty wedding yesterday at Balmain, Miss Adeline Broomfield was married to Mr Percival Rundle, youngest son of the Hon J. B. Rundle, of 'Pomeroy' Potts' Point. Captain Broomfield gave his daughter away, and Mr J. Carson supported the bridegroom. The bride who looked exceedingly pretty was gowned in white Duchesse satin, relieved with some lovely Limerick lace, and orange blossoms. Her only ornament was a true-lovers-knot in diamonds and emeralds, and she carried a most exquisite bouquet of orchids and ferns both presented to her by the bridegroom. There were four bridesmaids dressed in white silk crepe over rose pink silk, the full puff sleeves of pink velvet showing off to great advantage some beautiful fine lace draping the shoulders in form of a cape. With these charming costumes were worn black and pink hats. Their posies were pretty showers of pink roses. St. Mary's Church was very prettily decorated with cut palms and flowers. A canopy formed of ropes of greenery was erected before the altar and a wedding-bell made with oxeyed daisies was suspended over the bridal party. More bells, horse shoes and other floral designs, together with a quantity of hot house plants, made one of the prettiest wedding decorations of the season. On this occasion the bride followed the latest fashion by presenting her 'maids' with a souvenir in the shape of lucky bells, while the bridegroom gave them bangles. To complete the history of the costumes, for I know my dear Rita how you do love to hear about a wedding, I will tell you that the happy bride donned a sweet toilette of slate grey canvas over rose silk, and with it she wore a very becoming black hat with pink roses. With all this finery she intends to captivate the Tasmanianites for that is were the honeymoon is to be spent.[5]

In 1911, she lived with her husband at Seaford, Sussex, England.[6]

Her husband, Percy, died in 1923. Adeline was the main beneficiary of his estate.[7]

She passed away on 20 November 1946 in Bathurst.[8]
