Marriage to James Madison R. Faison

On 12 Nov 1891 in Richmond, Virginia, Sarah Frances Cordle married James M. R. Faison, son of John Lawrence Faison, (9 Oct 1825 - 24 June 1900) and Lucy Ann Virginia Birdsong, (21 Nov 1830 - 15 Nov 1905).

Together James M. and Sarah Faison had 3 children, a daughter and 2 sons. However, 1 son died a day after being born. All three children were born in Manchester district, Chesterfield County, Va. In chronological order the known children are:

The 1900 US Census enumerator asked Sarah how many of her children were living, she replied 2 children. He then asked her how many children were born to her. Sarah replied 3 children.

Husband Abandons Family

Soon after his mother's death in November 1905, James M. R. Faison abandoned his wife, Sarah, and their two children. For years Sarah thought that James had moved to Akron, Ohio, that is why in April 1927 and again in 1934 the Chancery Court of Richmond, Virginia, required her to publish in the Akron newspapers notice that she was suing for divorce (April 1927) and declaring him dead (March 1934).

Death & Burial

On 25 March 1936 at her daughter's home, 3300 Decatur Street, Richmond, Virginia, Sarah Frances (Cordle) Faison died. She was 72 years old.

“Manchester, Swansboro, Chesterfield and Oak Grove. He Talked of A Funeral. When J. R. Faison, of Swansboro, appeared before Squire Cheatham this morning and swore out a warrant for the arrest of Christopher Columbus Huband, whom he charged with cursing and abusing his wife, Mrs. Sarah Faison, Mr. Faison said that but for his ill health if would have been the coroner he was hunting for instead of the magistrate. He added that he was not sure that a funeral will not start from Mr. Huband’s home before long. Perdue, clerk of Chesterfield Circuit Court. Sterling L. Cordle, of Route 11, Manchester District, who died September 18 at the age of 85, left real estate valued at $20,000 and personal estate worth $9,598.06. He named a daughter, Miss Mary C. Cordle and a son, Clarence C. Cordle, as executors, and requested that his estate be divided into eight equal shares. The shares are to be 7, among his sons and daughters and grandchildren of a deceased daughter. Miss Mattie E. Wood, of Route 7, Bermuda District, who died October 11 at age 75, bequeathed real estate valued at $25,000 and personal estate worth $350 to Miss Mary B. Allen. Approximately 40 acres of land at the southeastern corner of U.S Route 360 and Snead Road has been purchased by Royall Speedway, Inc. according to a deed filed in Chesterfield County Circuit Court.
