Southern Cross Stars Challenge Team

Welcome to the Southern Cross Stars!

The Southern Cross Stars is a friendly team for Australians, and people interested in Australian genealogy. It covers people who lived in Australia and their ancestors from over the seas, as well as First Nations Australians. Really anything relevant to 'Under the Southern Cross' fits into our remit.

Team Captain: Gillian Thomas

To chat with others and help and encourage each other post to our G2G Chat Post or on the Aussie Challenge Teams Discord Channel, which we share with the other two Australia-focused teams - the Wizards of Aus and the Super Aussie Genies. To access the Aussie Challenge Teams Discord channel, first you need to be set up in the WikiTree Discord Server - see: Help:Discord and be allocated to the Southern Cross Stars once you have asked to join the team.

if you are new to WikiTree or Connect-a-Thons, we are more than happy to help you. And don't worry! It doesn't matter how much you are able to contribute.

Challenges

Connect-a-Thon - The purpose of the Connect-a-Thon is to connect all the loose branches around WikiTree to our main Global Family Tree, which is what the Connectors Project does all the time - "Connect-a-Thon"

Source-a-Thon - Add at least one source to profiles that currently have no sources, and remove the unsourced template and category. You can find unsourced profiles relevant to Australia at Australia, Unsourced Profiles category and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:DBE_Unsourced#Australia . There are also lists for the various states and territories.

Two tortoises, Hertyl and Spertyl, dressed in their spiffy Connect-a-Thon Tuxedo coats, are holding a large picture frame containing an image of a large bowl of candy-coated chocolates (actually, they're Australian "Smarties" - older than "M&Ms"). Across the bowl is the phrase "Thanks for the snacks (with "snacks" crossed out) err, the 'Thon". Between Hertyl and Spertyl, in the centre top above the picture frame, are the words "Hertyl and Spertyl just want to say".

Am sure I put a comment in but can’t see it now ??

Hi from a damp Sydney on this Thursday night, tried following the discord link but got me nowhere useful (my userid is abs64 if that helps allowing me to join or get an invite ?)

Have been a WikiTreer since maybe 2013 or 2014. My journey began back in about 1990 when my great uncle Peter gave me a printed list of about 2000 names. Being in IT I eventually created an online database I could store it in and add to it over time. It currently has about 20,000 names it in but have been meaning to move it here for ages… I’ve just started doing it again, only <2% through the names so far - I started with me, then my direct links (my parents, wife and son), then the people they are linked to, so never adding a “random” person. I’m currently 8 links deep, and it goes out to 40ish all up

Came across 3 individuals already on WikiTree but were not connected to each other as son and both his parents. The family and others have since been put together

I’ve done a sign me up post for the connect a thon… hope to chat to some of you soon - and if someone can help with discord, that’d be awesome

Hi Andrew, have you attempted to access the WikiTree Discord server yet - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Discord ? Once you’ve done that, then sometime before the Connect-a-Thon, you’ll be given access to that channel. I can facilitate that to happen more quickly if you let me know once you’re in the Discord server. Thanks for joining up :-)

Good morning, hope everyone is well. I am just getting a start on connecting now - not sure how many I will get done this week, I am recovering from Covid, and I havent done any of my usual pre-preparation, and still need the odd nanna nap to get me through the day!

I have tried to get into Discord, but no luck so far, I will keep trying though!
