Biography

New South Wales flag
Brad Jones was born in New South Wales, Australia

I was born in 1971 in Maitland District Hospital at Maitland, New South Wales, Australia, the second child and only son of Alan Mervyn JONES and Carolyn CHAPMAN.

When I was 16 years old, I attended three family funerals over a five month period, and realised that the same people had attended all three funerals. Not knowing who they were or how they were related, I began to ask questions. A photo of a soldier on my grandmother's wall also took my interest. Armed with a list of my great-grandparents written by my dad (see below), I visited the local cemeteries in search of my ancestors. Thus began an obsession that has so far spanned 35 years!

A list of my Great-Grandparents handwritten by my father Alan Jones in 1987

My journey with WikiTree began in Nov, 2020, however it took me until March, 2022 to find the time (and work up the courage!) to start adding profiles.

I became a member of The Australia Project in August, 2022, focusing mainly on New South Wales, and in particular The Hunter district.

I have participated in both connect-a-thons in 2023, which has been a great experience, and has helped to increase my CC7 counts.

My future goal is to start a One Place Study for my hometown of Tarro, New South Wales, Australia.

Hi Brad,

We're contacting you for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. We really appreciate your involvement in the Project in the last year. Thank you so much for all your help to improve Australian profiles on WikiTree.

Please could you reply to this message, or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and if you'd like to make any changes to the teams that you belong to. The teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.

If you've moved on to other things for the moment, that's absolutely fine. We'd appreciate if you'd let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.

Over the past year, Australia Project members have been more active on Discord. We're finding it a fun way to communicate as a project. If you're not on Discord yet, here's some information - Help:Discord. If you are already on the WikiTree Discord server, let us know, and we can send you an invite link to the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our chat channels are located. It's a great way to communicate with other members on your project team/s, or for any general questions.

We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

The Australia Project Leadership Team ~ Gillian, Margaret and Veronica

Hi Margaret,

Yes, I'm happy to continue with the Australia Project. Could I be added to the Sourcerers and Connectors Teams this year please? I'll be concentrating on New South Wales for both.

Regards, Brad

Dear Brad,

Thank you for joining our project. We are pleased that you decided to join us and hope that you find the Orphan Trail rewarding.

The England Project Leaders like to touch base with each of our members periodically to make sure everything is going well. This is our formal annual check-in and we are interested in your perspective as a Trailer, whether you are still waiting to be buddied up with a Trailblazer, on the road to completing the Orphan Trail, or taking a short break.

We would be interested to hear whether you're finding the explanations and guidance in the Orphan Trail pages useful. No more than a couple of sentences would be enough. We are always looking to improve and feedback plays an important part.

I look forward to hearing from you. Please respond by posting a reply below or sending me a private message.

On behalf of all the Leaders, thank you again. We look forward to your completion of the Orphan Trail and your continued involvement in our collaborative and fun Project!

Kind regards,

Elizabeth, England Project Leader

Hi Elizabeth,

I have completed the two profiles from the 1838-1957 period of OT1, and I am currently working on my first profile from the1700-1837 period. I have been buddied up with Gillian Loake, who has been very helpful and has provided some great feedback.

I have been reading through the Orphan Trail pages as well as a few example profiles, and have found them very useful.

Kind Regards, Brad

I have a booklet written by Brian Andrews in 1984 to celebrate the Andrews Family Reunion which was held at Mulbring in 1984...it has a lot more information on the family...I see missing children and if you would like to contact me i can fill in a few blanks for you...

Hi Mary, I believe we are distant cousins. I am connected through Dinah's mother. More than happy to collaborate to grow the tree.

Hi Brad!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi Brad, thanks for creating those recent categories, just a couple of things, category pages must have some applicable content or they end up on error lists. Cemetery and location categories have particular content, called a Category Info box (CIB). Have a look at at Category: Raymond Terrace General Cemetery, Raymond Terrace, New South Wales and Category: Salt Ash, New South Wales in edit mode and you'll see the template that produces the end result.

This page also has some general category guidelines https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Category_Guidelines_for_Australia_Project

Regards, Margaret

Hi Brad, welcome to the Australia Project. We are delighted that you have joined us and look forward to working with you. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or post to the Australia Project google group,
