I used to play cricket, rugby league, soccer, indoor cricket, indoor soccer, mixed netball, and even a season of AFL. I played one game of rugby union and dislocated my shoulder.
My crowning glory was hitting two 6s into the Ladies Stand on the SCG facing Adam Zampa. These days I am too old and fat to pretend to be an athlete.
Interest in genealogy
I'm a self-confessed family history nerd. I love learning about my past and how I came to be who I am today.
I have been doing family history now for nearly 15 years. All my family lines migrated to Australia (mainly Sydney and Adelaide) from the British Isles (England, Scotland, and Ireland) in the 19th Century. I have several convicts in my tree and quite a few notable connections. Many of my ancestors came to Australia as 'assisted immigrants' courageously crossing the seas for the opportunity for a better life.
I still have some frustrating family tree dead ends. Happy to collaborate with anyone to help unlock the mysteries of my origins.
Ethnicity estimate
My DNA ethnicity is estimated to be 40% England and Northern Europe, 31% Ireland, 21% Scotland, 4% Wales, 2% Jewish and 2% Germanic Europe.

Hi Aaron and hello cousin! Welcome to the NSW WikiTree team.
I encourage you to share with me if there are any particular things you are most interested in working on - whether subject areas, localities, historical eras... whatever really.
In terms of the NSW projects that I am most interested in, they would probably be NSW engineers/project leaders (I particularly enjoyed your father's dam history), town planners and athletes.
Happy to roam the state far and wide. I lived most of my life in Sydney and more recently the Hunter, but the tentacles of my ancestry extend across the state.
Looking forward to collaborating with you and the team.
No problem Aaron, that sounds great. We also share some connections to the Hunter too then! I was born at Newcastle and both my older brothers at Scone. One still lives in Muswellbrook and the other was a lecturer at Newcastle University.
Take care and let me know if I can ever help with anything.
We are closer than that. When my paternal grandmother passed away giving birth to father, my grandfather remarried into the Duck family of Paterson. We are related via Mary (Colgan) Meehan (1835-1890).

There is Source-a-Thon ‘how to’ information and some lists of unsourced profiles to work on at Southern Cross Stars, but you can work on any unsourced profiles that you want. You’ll find resources relevant to Australia under Australia Project Resources. We'd love to see you on the team Discord channel. If you haven't yet joined Discord, see Help:Discord.
I’m always happy to receive a direct message if you have any other questions, or need help with anything. Have a great fun weekend :-)
Gillian, your Team Captain!
Thanks for having a Big Heart and adopting Orphan Profiles. You will want to read this After adopting orphans FAQ to understand what to do next and it explains the special attention those profiles need.
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
Thank you for signing the WikiTree Honor Code! We're happy to have you as a new Wiki Genealogist. Make sure to check out the Intro to WikiTree page to learn how to get involved: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:How_to_Use_WikiTree
