Biography

Jonadab was the son of Joseph Wood and Jane Wood. He was born in 1803 in Fadmoor, a village 2 miles north of Kirkbymoorside, where he was baptized. Fadmoor means "moor of a man named Fadda." Jonadab married Ann Warriner around 1824 and the couple had nine children, all of them surviving to adulthood. His farm was located in Sleightholmedale, or more commonly spelled Sleightholm Dale valley just west of Fadmoor. In addition to their large family Jonadab and Ann Wood had Jonadab's parents Joseph and Jane Wood and brother George Wood living with them for decades. Jonadab died in 1886 at age 82. His personal estate was valued at 3,016 pounds sterling,15 shillings. The executors of his Will were sons, Joseph Wood of Gilling, George Wood of Sleightholm Dale and Jonadab of Oswaldkirk.
