Biography

Ann was born in 1802 in Helmsley, Yorkshire (1851 Census), the daughter of Helmsley grocer George Warriner. Her mother was named Jane Hastings when she married George Warroner in Helmsley 1 Oct 1786. Ancestry family trees suggest she was really Jane Shout, daughter of Robert Shout of Helmsley and widow of Robert Hastings. Jane Shout's baptism was Feb 1772 making her 9 when she married Robert Hastings in 1781 so unless she was baptized at age 7 or older, this suggestion is hard to believe. Of course a late baptism is possible and since there is no birth record for Ann located yet her parentage is uncertain. She married farmer Jonadab Wood around 1824 and the couple had nine children, who all lived to adulthood. Ann passed away three years before her husband, in Helmsley in 1883.
