Biography

Ann was born in 1828. She was the daughter of Jonadab Wood and Ann Warriner. She grew up in Sleightholme Dale on the family farm so it was no surprise when she married farmer John Waind of Bransdale. Usually these farming families of Yorkshire were large but in this case the opposite was true. Ann and John had a son John Waind and there is no record of other children. They lived at Ankness in Farndale and in the early years John had his three brothers helping him. By 1881 the brothers had left and John employed help for managing his 180 acre farm. By 1891 Ann and John's son had married and produced two grandchildren and of course helped run the farm. Ann passed away in 1897 at age 69 and left 72 pounds, 18 shillings to her family.
