Jordan was born in 1794 in South Carolina. He is understood to be the son of William Williams and Dorothy Traynam.

Jordan married Mary S. Thompson. Their children are: William Traynham, Swan Thompson, Rufus Knox, Caroline Elizabeth, Catherine Permelia, Bayliss, Savilla and Elizabeth Virginia. In 1850 Jordan, wife Mary and six of their children are enumerated on the federal census in Yalobusha County, Mississippi. ^[9]

Jordan died in 1872 and is buried at Williams Cemetery, Yalobusha County, Mississippi. .^[10]
