Biography

Ireland Native
William Waller was born in Ireland.

William Arthur de Warrene Waller was born on 26 May 1865 in Nenagh, county Tipperary[1]. He was the son of Robert Jocelyn Waller and Sarah Georgina Andrews.

Sadly his sister Florence died in 1873. Three years later, he lost his mother in 1877, when she was only eight years old. His father remarried.

In the England and Wales Census of 1881, W A De Warrenne Waller (aged 15) was recorded as a Boarder at Clifton, Gloucestershire[2].

William attained the rank of Captain with the 4th Battalion Royal Irish Regiment (and later Major).

He married Anna Selina Waller on 12 January 1893 at Christ Church in Bray, county Wicklow, Ireland, by Licence[3]. The witnesses were E. A. Rowan and his father Robert J. Waller. Notice of their marriage was printed on page 30 of the Homeward Mail from India, China and the East dated 17 January 1893:

MARRIAGES.
Waller—Waller —Jan. 12, at Bray, W. A. de W. Waller, capt. 4th batt. Royal Irish Regt., to Anna Selina Waller Waylon.[4]

They had three children during their marriage.

He lived at Wellington, Nenagh, County Tipperary.

Major William Arthur de Warrene Waller passed away on 8 March 1904 at the age of 38 due to Acute Capillary Bronchitis (2 days), Engorgement of Right side of the heart, and Syncope[5]. His death notice was printed in the Irish Times dated 14 March 1904, page 6:

DEATH OF MAJOR WALLER.
A feeling of profound sorrow was felt in North Tipperary when it became known on Tuesday last that Major William A. De Warren Waller died rather suddenly that morning. He was Major of the 4th Battalion Tipperary Artillery. It would appear that Mr. Waller left his house at Willington on Sunday for that of Mr. Saunders, of Corolanty, with a view to joining the Ormond hunt the next day, but during the evening he became ill, and died on Tuesday morning. He was in his 38th year, and was engaged for years past with his father, Mr. R. J. Waller, J.P., Nenagh. He was a large employer of labour, and his loss will be much felt in the Ormond hunt. At the Nenagh Petty Sessions on Saturday the court was adjourned as a mark of respect to his memory. Nenagh Urban Council and Ratepayers' Association passed resolutions of condolences with his family and friends. He leaves a young widow and three children to mourn his early demise. The funeral took place at Corolanty on Saturday at 11 o'clock for the family burial ground at Cloughprior, and was attended by a large concourse of gentry and the general public. Numerous wreathers were sent.[6]

Probate of his Will was granted on 10 November 1904 at Dublin to his widow Anne Selina Waller[7]. Effects: £3,708 .18s. 2d.
