Biography

Johan Treichel was born ca. 1874 in Kostopol, Volhynia, Russia. His parents were Adam and Caroline Rode Treichel

Sailing on the ship 'Grosser Kurfürst' from Bremen, Germany on November 14, 1908 and arriving at Ellis Island, New York on November 24 1908. He was going to be near his step father in-law Carl Boske in Benton Harbor, Berrien Co, Michigan who has Paid for his Passage. He had left his wife and their four children in Kostopol Russia. His age was reported as 38 years. During the 1910 census Johan was reported as being 36 years of age, married to Augusta for eighteen years, Augusta had given birth to eight children and only four were living presently. They were Augusta age 14 years, Johan age 10 years, Gustav age 8 years and Reinhold age 3 years. They were residing in Benton Township of Berrien County, Michigan and Johan was working as a laborer in the coal yard of the Railway.

He passed away on December 10, 1917 as result being dowsed with water in an effort to try and awake him. He was left and the fire went out in the train shack and he died from exposure. His Burial is in the Crystal Springs Cemetery, Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA.
