Biography
Walter was born on June 28, 1913 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to immigrant parents Johan and Auguste Rode Treichel and he was baptized on August 3, 1913 at St Matthew's Church, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. After the death of his father and by 1920 his mother had remarried to a widower named John Chap and the family was living in Benton Harbor, Michigan. In 1930 Walter live with the family of his mother and step-father john Paul Chap on Hillandale road as his step dad was fruit farmer. Also living there was his sister Elsie and her husband Paul Leslie Mooney and their son Paul Jr. He was 17 years old at the time. Walter had his church Confirmation on Mar 20, 1932 at St. Mattthew's in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Walter joined and served in he U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S.Trenton and Navel Reserve from September 20, 1932 until July 18, 1936. On September 4, 1937 he and Gladys Janet Hannah traveled to Angola, Steuben County, Indiana to get married. He and his wife resided in Lansing, Michigan where their three children were born, Walter Alvin on July 31, 1938, Gary Lee on December 12, 1939 and Barbara Louise on December 14, 1940. Around 1947 the family moved to Jackson, Michigan to take up residence there.
The first TV that the family had was constructed from a Heath-Kit by Walter.
He passed away in St Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida on may 1, 1990 and his remains were cremated.
