Albert Frederick Thornell was born in 1894 in Tyabb, Victoria, Australia, son of Mary Ann Maria (Hollyock) Thornell and John Henry Thornell.^{[citation needed]}

He married Ruby Estella Gibson in 1914 in Victoria.^[1] Their children were:^{[citation needed]}
