Biography

Carl Frederick Streich was born in Tankow, Bussow, Germany around 1827. He married Marie Cargus in Bussow and they emigrated to Canada in 1861 with 2 young children. Marie's older sister Johanne married Christian Scheel and the two families traveled together aboard the ship "Washington" leaving Hamburg 15 April 1861 and arriving in Quebec. From there these two farming families made their way by land to McNab Township, Renfrew County, Ontario. The area had a small ethnic German population of 500. The Streich family had two more children, William and Tena, born in McNab Township. They remained close to the Scheel family. Tena Streich married Robert Scheel, grandson of Christian. Julius Scheel was the informant on his Uncle Carl's death. Carl died in 1889, one of the pioneer farmers of McNab Township.
