Biography

Ernestine was born in 1872. She was the daughter of Carl Streich and Marie Cargus and was usually known as Tena. She married Robert Scheel in 1894 and they had a daughter Emma Scheel who was born on the exact same day, January 20, 1895 as her cousin Delta Emma Scheel, daughter of a related Robert Scheel. Tena was my grandmother's aunt and quite skilled at sewing. When her sister Augusta died suddenly of typhoid in 1907, Tena completed the table cloth Augusta had been making for her daughter and presented it to her niece Mary Christine Loock.

Augusta's Tablecloth

Tena passed away in 1946 at age 74 and was buried in the Albert Street Cemetery.

From a letter of Charles Stielow, husband of Tena Scheel's niece, Mary Loock, dated 29 Nov. 1942:

"Aunt Tena was fixing the fur coat that Goldie wore out and now she is wearing it....Aunt Tena was up to the Scheels as she wanted to find out how Henry Scheel and his wife and one of the boys were. They had an accident, seems that someone hit the back of their car, they were badly hurt."
