Biography

John Stokes was born about 1400, estimated from the births of his children for whom some dating evidence is available.

A son of John and Agnes Stock was Sir William Stock, knight, of Warmington, who, in 1464, was attainted as an adherent of Henry VI, but procured pardon and restitution in 1472. He died in 1485, leaving as heir his brother Thomas Stokes, clerk. ^[1]

John died before 1465, as the death of his wife Agnes is recorded in that year and she is referred to as being a widow. ^[1]
