Albert was born in 1878 in Altenwalde, Pommern, Germany, the oldest child of Eduard August Stielow and his second wife Johanna Louise Spieker. The couple decided to emigrate to Canada. Eduard left first, sailing on the ship "Gainsborough," leaving Hamburg November 2, 1883, bound for Quebec. Then he traveled by land to Arnprior, Ontario and made arrangements for his family to join him in the spring. The reason for this was Hannah was pregnant with their third child, Carl (Charles). She left Hamburg, Germany April 18, 1884 on the ship "Hamburg", traveling with Albert, age 5, August, age 3 and new baby, Carl. At Liverpool, England they transferred to the ship "Hanoverian" for the trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia. It is unclear if the Hanoverian then sailed to Quebec. The final destination was Arnprior, near Ottawa. Albert's father had found work at a Saw Mill. By age 12, Albert was working too, according to the 1891 Census of Canada. He married Amelia Lampole in April 1901 and they had three children. Sadly, Albert contracted Typhoid Fever and suffered with the illness for three weeks before passing away in 1910 at age 31.
