Johanna was born in 1850, the daughter of Daniel Spiecker and Louisa Monchow. Johanna,or Hannah as she was called, had six siblings and most of them emigrated from Pielburg, Pomerania, Germany to Canada. Hannah married widower Edward Stielow around 1878 probably in Altenwalde, Pommern. In 1883 Edward left for Canada, settling in McNab Township, Renfrew County, Ontario. Back in Germany Hannah was giving birth to her third son, Charles. By April she was ready to join her husband in Canada. She departed Hamburg April 18, 1884 with son Albert Stielow, age 5, August Stielow, age 3 and baby Carl. Also passengers on the same ship were her mother Louise Spiecker, who was widowed, and Hannah's youngest sister, Emilie Spiecker, age 23. Once settled in Renfrew, Ontario, Hannah and Edward had three more children with their final child Minnie Louise Stielow born in January 1900 when Hannah was 49. Hannah lived a long life, finally dying in 1928 of a stroke.
