Biography

Epifanio Palumbo is born around 1777 in Corleone, the son of Giovanni Palumbo and Maria Cutrara.

Epifanio marries Caterina Marino, daughter of the late Sigismondo Marino and Paola Pirrone, on 10 February 1805. His father has died by this time.[1][2][3]

Epifanio and Caterina have at least seven children: Maria (c. 1809), Paola (c. 1809), Biagia (c. 1811), Giuseppe (c. 1815), Giovanni (c. 1817), Apollonia (c. 1817), and Giuseppa (c. 1820).

Based on their reported ages in 1834, Maria and Paola are twins, born around 1809. Maria is named after her paternal grandmother, and Paola is named after her maternal grandmother.

Biagia is born around 1811, according to the same 1834 census.

In an 1816 tax record for Sac. Don Gaetano Gagliardo, Epifanio is named as a landowner whose property is near that of Gagliardo, in the vicinity of the church of San Filippo.[4]

Giuseppa is known from the record of her 1840 marriage, although she does not appear in the Church census of 1834 in her parents' household.

Based on their reported ages in 1834, Giovanni and Apollonia are also twins, born around 1817.

Maria marries Nicolo' Riina on 26 April 1824. Her parents are both still living.[5]

Paola marries Giovanni Battista Tutino, from the Papal States, on 21 October 1827.[6]

In 1834, Epifanio, age 57 (b. 1777), his wife Caterina, 55 (b. 1779), and their children Biagia, 23 (b. 1811), Giuseppe, 19 (b. 1815), Giovanni, 17 (b. 1817), and Apollonia, 17 (b. 1817), live near the strada di Mannina. Their married daughters, Paola and Maria, live nearby.[7]

Biagia marries Calogero Mondello on 27 January 1839.[8]

Giuseppa marries Biagio Nigliazzo on 13 September 1840.[9]

Apollonia marries Leoluca Giandalone on 28 April 1844. Her father has died by this time.[10]

Giovanni marries Lucia Jannazzo on 11 February 1849.[11]

Biagia dies at the age of 82 in September 1893.[12]
