Biography

Early Life

George Neilson was born 9 January[1] 1854.[2] He was the third child of John Fisher Neilson and Elizabeth (Wylie) Neilson.

In 1861, George (aged aged 5) lived in North Cayuga, Haldimand, Canada West, with his parents: John (aged 36) and Elizabeth (aged aged 31) and George's siblings: Abraham (aged 11), John (aged 9), Margaret (aged 7), Mary (aged 4), and Thomas (aged 2).[3]

In 1881, George (aged 25) lived in Charlotteville, Norfolk South, Ontario, Canada living with his parents: John (aged 56) and Elizabeth (aged 51) and George's siblings: Mary (aged 23), Thomas (aged 21), Ellen (aged 19), Elizabeth (aged 15), Ann (aged 15), Cathrine (aged 13), Frances J. (aged 13), David (aged 11), and Sarah Jane (aged 6).[4]

Family Life

George (aged 27) married Martha Ellen Mabee (aged 22) on 13 March 1884 in Vittoria, Ontario, Canada. [5][6] They had 10 children:

  2. Elizabeth (Nielson) Ion, 1885-1962 (age 76)
  3. Martha Ellen (Neilson) Whitehead, 1888-1950 (age 62)

  5. Lillie (Neilson) Richards, 1892-1961 (age 69)
  6. Jessie (Neilson) Hellerud, 1894-1951 (age 56)
  7. Hazel (Neilson) Frost, 1897-1979 (age 82)
  8. Minnie May (Neilson) Mills, 1900-1952 (age 51)
  9. Eva Lavenia (Neilson) Simpson, 1902-1946 (age 43)
  10. Mabel (Neilson) Pope, 1905-1973 (age 67)

In 1891 George (aged 35), farmer, and his wife, Martha (aged 27), lived in Charlotteville, Norfolk South, Ontario, Canada, with their children: Elizabeth (aged 5), Martha E. aged (3), and Pearl (aged 1).[7]

In 1901, George (aged 45) worked as a farmer and lived in Charlotteville, Norfolk South, Ontario, Canada, with his wife, Martha (aged 38), and their children: Elizabeth (aged 15), Martha E. (aged 13), Pearl (aged 10), Lilian (aged 9), Jessie (aged 7), Hazel (aged 4), and Minnie (aged 10 months).[1]

In 1911, George (aged 56), a 'Farmer Ret', lived in Simcoe, Norfolk, Ontario, Canada, with his wife, Martha (aged 49), and their children: Elizabeth (aged 25), Martha (aged 23), Pearl (aged 21), Lilly (aged 19), Jessie (aged 17), Ada [Hazel] (aged 14), Minnie (aged 11), Eva (aged 8), and Mabel (aged 5).[8]

In 1921, George (aged 64), worked as a Liveryman, and lived at house number 118, 3 Union Street, Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, with his wife, Martha (aged 56), and their children: Minnie (aged 21), Eva (aged 18), and Mabel (aged 16).[9]

Death & Burial

George (aged 75) died 24 September 1929 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Simcoe, Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada.[2]
