Biography

Anna Maria Ligotino is born 21 October 1828 in Corleone and baptized the next day, named after her paternal grandmother. She is the daughter of Carmelo Ligotino and Maria Rosa Mannina (written here as Mandina). Her godparents are Giuseppe and Giacoma di Miceli, son and mother.

In 1839, Anna Maria, 11, lives on on the strada di Trapani with her parents, Carmelo, reportedly age 37 (he is 39 this year), and Maria Rosa, 31, and her siblings Salvatrice, 13, Salvadore, 9, Vincenzo, 7 (he is six), and Lucia, 2 (b. 1839).

Anna Maria marries Giuseppe (Josepho) Colletti (or less commonly, Colletto), a farmer, on 23 November 1856. Her father has died by this time.

Maria and Giuseppe have at least seven children: Lucia (1857), Maria Rosa (1859), Rosa (1861), Giuseppa (1864), two daughters named Maria Carmela (1867 and 1871), and Girolamo (1868).

Lucia and Giuseppa are both known from marriage allegati, which include their civil birth records. Lucia is also known from her baptismal record, as are their sisters and brother. Four of the baptisms (Lucia, Rosa, the first Maria Carmela, and Girolamo) are in the name of Colletto, while the other three baptisms, and both civil birth records (Lucia and Giuseppa), are in the name of Colletti, the more common form of this surname.

Lucia is born 7 November 1857 in her parents' home in via S. Elena, Corleone. Acording to her father, Giuseppe, age 21 (b. 1836), agricola, who reports her birth, Anna Maria is 27 years old (b. 1830). Lucia is baptized the next day with the name Colletto. Her godparents are Lucianus Frija and Lucia Ligotino, who are not married.

Maria Rosa Colletti is born and baptized Mariam Rosam on 20 November 1859. Her godparents are Vincentius Spinella and Maria (last name illegible, something like Cryus or Orza), a married couple.

Maria Rosa dies at ten months of age. The record of her death calls her "Rosa."

Rosa Colletto is born and baptized Rosam on 30 July 1861.Her godparents are Salvator and Cristina Fontanetta, brother and sister.

Giuseppa Colletti is born 4 April 1864 in her parents' home in via del Carmino, Corleone. Her birth is reported by her father, Giuseppe, age 28 (b. 1836), villico. According to him, Anna Maria is 36 at this time (b. 1828). Giuseppa is baptized the next day as Josepham. Her godparents are Rochus Coniglio and Antonina di Miceli, a married couple.

The first daughter named Maria Carmela is born and baptized on 13 January 1867 with the surname Colletti . Her godfather is Joseph Pampinella, who is unmarried. She dies on 15 July 1867 at seven months of age.

Girolamo is born and baptized Hieronymum on 8 August 1868. Although he is the last known child of Giuseppe and Maria, he is named after his paternal grandfather, suggesting that there is an older brother who also had this name, and died before 1870. His godparents are Joseph Coniglio and Magdalena di Miceli, a married couple.

Girolamo dies on 16 May 1870 at a year and nine months of age.

The second daughter named Maria Carmela is born and baptized Mariam Carmelam on 6 August 1871. Her godparents are Joannes Patella and Maria Carmela Cannaliato, a married couple.

Anna Maria dies at 56 years of age (b. 1828) on 16 September 1884. Her husband, Giuseppe, survives her.[1]

Lucia marries Salvatore Virgadamo in January, 1887. Her younger sister, Giuseppa, marries Giacomo Miata later that same year, in October. It is the first marriage for either of them.

Giuseppe remarries, to Margherita la Magna, on 12 September 1889.
