Biography

Elizabeth King was born about 1652. She was the sole surviving child and heir of Sir Robert King of Boyle, co. Roscommon Ireland and his second wife, Rt Hon Sophia, Viscountess Wimbledon of Whittacre, co. Warwick.[1] Sir Robert King (c. 1599–1657) was an Irish soldier and statesman.

Elizabeth married Sir Thomas Barnardiston, 2nd Barnonet of Ketton (Kedington). According to the Allegations for marriage licenses, the wedding was to take place in the parish church of St Alban's, Herts, "or any church or chapel, co. Warwick." The allegation was dated 26 July 1670. Thomas was about 24 years old and Elizabeth about 18. [2] Thomas and Elizabeth had two daughters, Sophia and Elizabeth, who died in childhood, and seven sons, of whom only six names are known: Thomas, Nathaniel (who died in infancy), Robert, Nathaniel, Samuel, and John.[3]

Elizabeth died in 1707 and was buried on 21 Oct. 1707 in the Barnardiston family vault at St Peter and St Paul's Church in Kendinton.[4]
