Biography

Hester Ann King married Hardy Box, on 20 February 1848, in Butler, Missouri, USA. [1]

The 1850 census taken in Butler county, Butler, Missouri, showed Hardy, a farmer, age 35, with his new wife Hester, age 21 and children Ruben 13, William age 12, Dennis age 8 and Simeon age 1. It is assumed that the three older children, all born in Georgia, were from Hardy's first marriage, while 1 year old Simeon born in Missouri was from his 2nd marriage. Also in the household was 12 year old Sarah Box, born in Tennessee. [2]

Hardy's 91 year old father Jonathan Box, born in South Carolina, was also living with them. [3]

The family were living in Cane Creek, Butler, Missouri in 1870. Hardy, (on the census as Hardie Baux) was age 59, and was living with his wife Hester, and children Jonathan, Elizabeth, Henry, Tabitha, Wiley and Andrew. His son William with wife Elizabeth and baby Hardie were living next door [4]

Hester was born in 1829. Hester was a daughter of William Shields King and Hester Ann Cox King (later Mayes) who married on June 22, 1826 in Jefferson Co., TN. Hester married Hardy Box on February 20, 1848 in Butler Co., MO and they had 10 children: Simeon, Nancy A, Jonathan, Elizabeth Rachel Box Boyer, Lydia A, Henry W (or M), Tabitha E., Maston Wiley "Matthew", Andrew J, and James Marion.
