Biography

Hester was a daughter of Reed Cox and Mary Carper who married on 4-27-1805 in Jefferson Co., TN.

On 6-20-1826, she married William Shields King in Jefferson County, Tennessee. They had 6 known children all born in that county in TN: Hester (1829), Reed (1830), Rachel (1832), Jonathan (1834), Henry (1836) and Dudley (1841).

William died and she married Elijah Mayes in 1846 in Butler Co., MO. They had 2 children: Orlena D. Mayes Walton (1847) and Elijah Mayes (1849), prior to Elijah Sr.'s death.

Hester was still living when the 1860 census was taken, but apparently died prior to the 1870 census.
