Biography

Hannah (King) Browne immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Birth

Hannah King was born about 1629 in England, the daughter of William and Dorothy King of Salem, Massachusetts.[1]

Marriage

Husband: Richard Browne Jr. (abt.1629-abt.1687)

She married Lieut. Richard Brown (Browne) about 1650-1 in Salem.[2]
All their children were residents of the Town of Southold, their order is not known, they were:[2]
  1. Ensign Richard, oldest son, who d. 11 July, 1701.
  2. Jonathan, 2nd son, d. doubtless 19 Aug. 1710.
  3. William, 3rd son, b. 23 June 1659.
  4. Walter, 4th son, letters to his widow Jane, 1 May 1711.
  5. Hannah, m. probably about 1678, is named in the will of Ensign Richard Brown, dated 6 July, 1701, as "my sister Hannah, the late wife of John Reeve."
  6. Abigail, b. about 1667, d. 27 May 1716, aged 49 years. She was the 1st wife of William 3 Kinge (Samuel 2, William 1) of Southold, b. 10 Jan. 1661-2, m. 17 Jan. 1686-7, d. 12 May 1740.
  7. Mary, doubtless the youngest daughter, named by her father, 11 Feb. 1686-7, with his "other daughters already married," in his deed of trust to John Tuthill.
In 1686 Richard Brown, Sr., had four males and four females in his family.[2][3]

Hannah outlived her husband. She died after 1687.[2]
Richard Browne was living at Southold on 11 Feb. 1686-7. He is described as the "late deceased" on 27 April, 1688.[2]

Land of Richard Browne:
Richard Brown had a home lot in Southold, 15 March 1659, next to that of Thomas Moore. He was afterwards the first and sole owner of the southwestern part of Oyster Ponds Lower Neck, now Orient, which included the site of the oldest cemetery there.[2][5]

This wrighting witnesseth a Bargaine or contract, Betweene Richard Browne of Southold on Long Island on the one party & Elnathan Topping of Southhamton on Long Island one the other party: that the said Richard Browne for divers causes and resonnes thereunto moving him. hath bargained and Sould and by these presents doth bargaine and sell aleanate, assigne & sett over unto the said Elnathan all his right title and intrest in his house and home Iott at Southold . . . to Keepe harmeles the said Elnathan Topping his heares, executors, administrators or assignes from any clame mad by his wife Hannah Browne or his mother to any part or parcell thereof or from any other parson or parsonnes lawfully claiming any part or parcell of the premises from by or under the said Richard Browne his heires, for and in consideration of fiveteene pounds by me receved to my satisfactione.

This Record Testifieth yt ye sd Richard Brown have purchased of his brother in law Samuel King for valuable consideration in hand received one first lott in Occabauck divident throughout - And all that spong of meadow joyning to ye land formerly in possession of Mr. Tucker:
Also one hundred acres of upland more or less lying in Corchaug division bounded by the land of Caleb Horton on ye West, and by ye land of John Tutthill Senr on ye East and on ye South by ye highway or cartway, and on ye North by ye North Sea or Sound.
Also two second lotts of meadow lying att Corchaug, and adjoyning to the land of Benjamin Horton Westerly, and bounded Easterly and Southerly by ye meadow of Jonathan Horton . - And ye sd upland and meadow is forever to remain to be the sd Richard Brown his heyres and assigns.
Entrd 6th June 1683.
