Biography

Walter was born about 1661. He was the son of Richard Brown and Hannah King.^[1] He is listed in the 1698 Census of Southold, N.Y. with two sons, Joseph and Daniel, and no wife.^[2]

He married Jane Conklin of East Hampton in 1699.^[1][3]

They had four children:^[1]

He died about 1711.^[1]

Walter 2 Browne, of Southold. It is to be regretted that we have not fuller details of Walter, the 4th son of Lieut. Richard Browne. He was born after 1659. Letters on his estate were issued to his widow Jane, 1 May, 1711. (Liber 8, p. 48, N. Y. City Wills). Walter was perhaps a widower in 1698, living with his sons Daniel and Joseph, as all three are mentioned together in the Census of that year.

Walter Brown married on 15 May, 1699-1700, Jane Conkline, of East Hampton. Widow Jane Brown m. 15 July, 1711-12, Daniel Edwards. Issue : i. Elizabeth 3, bapt. 4 June, 1704. ii. Hannah, bapt. 8 Sept., 1706. iii. Jane, bapt. 1 May, 1708-9. iv. Walter, who perhaps m. 1st, Abigail, (Brown?), who d. 5 Oct., 1721; 2nd, Mary Youngs, on 12 Jan. 1723-4, who d. 14 April, 1735; and 3rd, Mehitable 4 Horton, (Jonathan 3, Capt. Jonathan 2, Barnabas 1), b. in 1712, m. on 2 Dec, 1743.^[1]
