Biography

John was born about 1845. The 1850 census lists him as 5 years old. [1]

In 1910 he was living with his wife Alvira in California. [2]

He was admitted to the Old Soldiers Home in Sawtelle, California on October 7, 1914. Those records indicate a wife in Santa Barbara as next of kin and an occupation of peddler. His disabilities at time of admittance include rheumatism, an old gun shot wound to the right hand and right hemoplegia. He passed away in there on September 9, 1918.

Shannon,

There are numerous sources on the other profile. Regarding the birth date, only the 1900 census lists 1848. All others seem to be 1844-1845.

Also regarding the birthdate, John served in the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. If he were born in 1848, he would only have been 14 yo at the time of his enlistment.

Regarding the death date, please check out the Old Soldiers home record for John. It knits together all details of his life, showing birth in Massachusetts, service in the 105th Ohio and next of kin living in Santa Barbara, California. That document is the source for the death date.

Do you have alternate sources? If not, can you kindly reconsider the merge?

King-31366 and King-12036 are not ready to be merged because: Birthdates and death dates are not the same please check those so they can merge.

King-31366 and King-12036 appear to represent the same person because: Because we have slightly different DOB, I didn't find your John H. (Harvey) King when I added mine. I am researching soldiers of the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War and found John in the Old Soldier's Home in Sawtelle. John was a member of Company E, which was primarily from Geauga Co., Ohio. Kindly consider this merge. Best regards, Cathryn.
