Biography

Charles was born in 1839 to John and Jane (Hampton) Caley, both born in the Isle of Man. He married Juliaett Carpenter. Together they had 5 children. He enlisted in the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served until mustered out at the end of the Civil War. According to the 1890 Veteran’s census, he was shot in the right shoulder and a bullet remained lodged in his lung.

Appendices from The Story of a Thousand

Enlisted in to Company F of the 105th Ohio Volunteer Infantry on August 6, 1862 at age 23 as Private. He was wounded at Battle of Perryville on October 8, 1862. He was captured with the forage train on January 21, 1863 near Murfreesboro and later paroled. He was mustered out at the close of the war. [1]
