Biography

Wellesley Harrington Hubley was born December 26, 1878 to Edwin Byron Hubley and Mary Jane Mosher. He was born in 14 Mile House, St. Margaret's Bay Road, Halifax County.

Wellesley's first marriage was to Grace Heisler February 1, 1905 at the Baptist Tabernacle, Halifax, Nova Scotia and they had two children George and Doris. They divorced December 1909.

On May 10, 1911 Wellesley married Rebekah Gotobed Grant by Baptist Lisence with the Reverend P.D. Nowlan officiating. Wellesley's sister Minnie had married Hugh Seymour Grant, Rebekah's brother, and it is likely this is how they were introduced. They lived at 14 Mile House where Wellesley had been born. Wellesley built a home beside the 14 Mile House where his parents and unmarried siblings lived. Together they had nine children. Twins Bertrum and Joyce died in infancy.

A Hotel Keeper, Wellesley was also the Post Master for St. Margaret's Bay area. He continued with the Guide business which was originally begun by his Father and they held a number of horses for use in guiding as well as boats for fishing expeditions held on Hubley's Big Lake as well as other lakes in the area.

He died December 31, 1939 in the V.G. Hospital, Halifax, Nova Scotia at the age of 61 years 5 days. He was buried January 2, 1940 in St. Andrews Cemetery, Timberlea, Halifax County, Nova Scotia.
