Biography

Elizabeth was a Friend (Quaker)

Elizabeth Hollowell, the seventh child and of Thomas Hollowell, Sr. and Alice was born on 9 Sep 1662 in Virginia.[1]

When she was 25, she married Nathan Newby, son of William Newby and Isabel Turner, on 13 Dec 1687 in Nansemund County, Virginia.[2][3][4] Elizabeth died on 01 Aug 1720 in Perquimans County, North Carolina.[3]

Elizabeth Hollowell was buried in Perquimans County, North Carolina.[3]

Nathan Newby and Elizabeth Hollowell had the following children:
  1. Rachel Newby was born in 1687 in Perquimans, North Carolina. She died on 25 Jun 1750 in Perquimans, North Carolina. She married Peter Pearson in 1708 in Perquimans, North Carolina.
  2. Thomas Newby was born after 1688. (not confirmed)

  1. Elizabeth's date of birth is recorded as "9th of the 7th mo. 1662." Prior to 1752 in England and in the Colonies, dates were using the Julian calendar, in which the year began on March 25. That means that "1st month" referred to March, and "7th month" referred to September. So this date is most likely the 9th day of September, not the 9th day of July. Confusing, right?
