Fred Hassler was born on November 16, 1926 in Underwood, North Dakota. His parents were Frederick Hassler and Orpha Stengel.

Fred J. Hassler, of Minot, died Monday, January 16, 2006, at Trinity Hospital, Minot. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison with Father Heit officiating. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19 at Thompson Funeral Home in Garrison with a rosary and vigil service starting at St. Nicholas Catholic Church at 7 p.m.
Fred Hassler was born on Nov. 16, 1926, the son of Fred Hassler Sr. and Orphie (Stengel) at Underwood. He was raised and educated in Underwood and enlisted in the United States Air Force in the fall of his senior year of high school. He served in the Philippines from 1945 to 1948, during WW II. After being honorably discharged in 1948, he married Mary Schauer at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Garrison on April 13, 1948. Fred was employed with Wrestling's Machine Shop in Garrison for three years.
He then took his wife and moved to San Bernardino, Calif., in 1951. After spending time in numerous cities around the United States, he settled down in Minot in 1957. Fred and Orphie*** had four children together. He opened up his own trucking business in 1960, called F & W Repair. Fred retired on May 20, 1990. Upon his retirement, he became manager of Robindale Trailer Court, where he lived until his death. During his life, Fred was very involved in his faith and his family. He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. He loved the outdoors where he spent his time hunting and fishing.
Fred is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Hassler of Minot; his children, Jeff (Chriseda) Hassler of Butte, Mont., Jerry (Mary) Hassler of Minot; grandchildren, Lisa (Alan) Readhead, Stacey and Dusty Hassler, Eric (Karen) Hassler, Carissa (Charles) Wareham, Brock Hassler and companion, Stephanie Seecomb, Zachary, Jordan, and Holly Hassler; sisters, Arnetta (Roy) Voeller of Towner, N.D., Carroll Hassler of Sioux Falls, S.D., Bob (Joan) Hassler of Gahanna, Ohio, David (Dixie) Hassler of Dubuque, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jim Hassler and one daughter, Theresa Hassler.
