Robert Hassler was born on October 19, 1931 in Underwood, North Dakota to Frederick Hassler and Orpha Stengel^[1]. He grew up on the farm with his family while learning all sorts of practical skills. If it was broke, he could fix it, from cars to household appliances.

As a young adult he joined the Air Force and served in the Korean War. Bob was an intelligent and hardworking man who possessed a variety of skills. He was an early user of computers starting in the 1950's when one computer could take up an entire room.

In 1953, he married the love of his life, Joan Becker^[2]. Initially they had a small home together in Minot, North Dakota before relocating back to Ohio.

There, they had 2 children:

1. Tami Hassler, born in 1959.
2. Michael Hassler, born in 1962.

He died on April 26, 2008 at his home in Westerville following an infection while in hospice care^[3].

Robert D. Hassler, 76, of Westerville, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008 at home. Retired from Abbott Foods, Inc. Member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Westerville. U.S. Air Force Veteran of Korean Conflict and was awarded the outstanding airman achievement award of the 91st Field Maintenance Squadron for July 1954 to Dec. 1954. Preceded in death by parents, Fred and Orpha Hassler and brother Fred Hassler. Survived by loving wife of 54 years Joan (Becker) Hassler; daughter, Tami (Tom) Stone of Westerville; son, Michael Hassler of Westerville; grandchildren, Wendy Stone, Andy Stone, Sean Hassler and Sarah Hassler; sister, Arnetta (Roy) Voeller of North Dakota; brothers, Carroll Hassler of South Dakota and David (Dixie) Hassler of Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the MORELAND FUNERAL HOME, 55 East Schrock Road Westerville, Tuesday 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4686 East Walnut Street, Westerville.
