Mary Schauer was born on June 26, 1928 in Garrison, McLean County, North Dakota. Her parents were Theodore Schauer and Edna Fitzgerald.
She married Fred Hassler on April 13, 1948. Together they had 4 children:

Mary Theresa "Mae" Hassler, 77, formerly of Minot, N.D., died Sunday morning, April 23, 2006, at her son's home in Butte.
She was born in Garrison, N.D., on June 26, 1928, to Theodore Schauer Sr. and Edna (Fitzgerald) Schauer. She received her schooling in Garrison. On April 13, 1948, she married Fred J. Hassler Jr.
Mary was a member of AARP and was an avid reader. She continually donated to several charities throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, in January of this year; daughter, Teri Rae Hassler; and son, James Allen Hassler.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Chris Hassler of Butte and Jerry and Mary Hassler of Minot; brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Barbara Schauer, and sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Ernie Saylor, all of Lake Park, Minn.; nine grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Mary's remains have been cremated in Butte. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home. Her ashes will be interred with her husband in Underwood Cemetery in Underwood, N.D.
