Biography

Maria was born in October 1844 the only child of Lancelot Hardy and Ann Wood to be born in Canada. The rest of the couple's children were born in Yorkshire. They had settled in the Meadowvale Village outside of Toronto. Maria married John Fleming in 1865 and they had four children. They lived in Chinguacousy Township where John worked as a farm labourer. Maria outlived her husband by six years, dying of pneumonia in 1917 and was buried in the Churchville Cemetery.
