Biography
Lydia Gilliam (27 March 1736) married David Pennington. The births of 9 children appear in the Albemarle Parish Register.
David purchased 212 acres in Brunswick County 23 June 1752, but evidently lived in Sussex County where he purchased 195 acres 3 May 1759 and patented 250 acres 20 Aug. 1760, 350 acres of the combined tract of which he and Lydia sold 26 Sept. 1771.[1]
It has been said that this Lydia Gilliam married John Watkins. John Watkins married Lydia Gilliam, the daughter of Walter Gilliam.

John Gilliam and Elizabeth (Poythress) Gilliam are not the parents of Lydia Gilliam. Lydia is mentioned in her father John Gilliam's will, which is on his profile. His wife was not Sarah Henry though, that's from a DAR submitted genealogy. The Henry's belong with this group of Gilliam's not the other. Also John Gilliam's children were godparents of David and Lydia Pennington's children. GILLIAM Parents and Godparents, Albemarle Parish.
