DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships by comparing test results with Deborah or other carriers of her ancestors' mitochondrial DNA.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Deborah:
Incredible results! I'm in awe of your ability to add 2,222 connections in a single weekend. I felt like I was glued to my desk chair for most of the weekend just adding 143. I have much to learn!!!
Thank you for your participation on Team Virginia in the January 2023 Connect-A-Thon. You helped bring Team Virginia to a Historical Finish with over 10k profiles added and an amazing 1st place finish. We could not have done it without you! This year's Thon members added over 95,000k new Profiles to the Global Shared Tree!! Here is The Wrap Up information
Deborah (Gehlert) Roesler participated with The Virginia Connectors during the 2023 Connect-a-Thon, and added 60 connections.
I am very grateful for your prompt reply and can now see where the problem was. It will take me awhile
to follow up and fit the pieces together again. Am much encouraged by your research and experience with the family. We had an unexpected outcome to our search so far which caused a lot of hilarity. The Hatfield name is on my daughter’s husband’s side and his mother was very interested in a possible link. As I looked through the names in the connection I realized it pertained to our family and not his! He is related by degree to the Hatfields through my daughter. I am still looking forward to relating him to his own family roots, probably with more surprises in store. Thanks again. If there are any interesting post scripts I will let you know. I really appreciate WikiTree and all the opportunity offered on the site.

Hi Anne. It was my pleasure to help! If your husband is a descendent of any of the children of Epperson Hatfield-5252 and Lorena Scott-43548, you can have some fun tracing back to several French and Scottish nobles through Lorena's lineage. I grew up knowing the hillbilly lore of the Hatfield and McCoy feud, and was quite surprised to find a much different ancestry along that maternal line. Just let me know if you need some hints! Also, thank you so much for the Generous Genealogist Badge - it means a lot! Debbie
In searching the Hatfield McCoy feud I found a short 23 degree connection between William Hatfield-260 and Benjamin Hatfield-6348. I was able to confirm all the degrees except the 4th from William which is Emzy Hatfield-3408 listed as Valentine’s sister The Emzy profile birth date 1912 is a male with 2 spouses. The Pricy Dotson spouse seems related to the last 3 Hatfield connections Valentine Wallace 1789, Ephraim Prater 1812 and William Anderson 1839. Any help linking these connections is appreciated- thanks
Anne White
First, thank you for providing lots of details about your question. I repeated your steps in using the connection finder between William Hatfield-260 and Benjamin Hatfield-6348. The Emzy Hatfield at step 4 is Hatfield-254 (not Emzy Hatfield-3408). Emzy Hatfield-254 is a female named Mary "Emzy" (Hatfield) Riffe. She was the daughter of Ephraim and Annie (McKinney) Hatfield, and sister of my ancestor George Hatfield-255. The Emzy Hatfield-3408 that you found is a male, married to 1) Pricy Dotson and 2) Cleo B. Find a Grave memorial 109972657 for this Emzy lists his parents as yet another Emzy Hatfield (b.1885-d.1964) and Cora D. (Sullivan) Hatfield (b.1850-d.1918). I hope this helps. Good luck with your feud research!
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
