Hi Peg,

We're sad to inform you that the Black Sheep Project is being dissolved. All BSP's subprojects will be moved in pieces under the Notables Project as categories and perhaps as Teams, depending on interest. Witch Trials will become a subproject of Notables.

Your BSP project member badge will soon be removed. If you'd like to join the Notables project, please let one of us know and we'll get you a Notables badge.

Please email either of us if you have any questions and if you'd like to join the Notables project.

Thanks, Susan McNamee & Traci Thiessen ~co-leaders, Black Sheep Project

Hi Peg, I sent you a message a couple of weeks ago and hadn't heard back. Sometimes they go to spam. If you don't see the message, please let me know and I'll resend. Thanks! Emma~~Adoption Angels
Hi Peg,

While searching for something else, I noticed your name and your interest in your TROUT/TRAUT family history.

I just wanted you to be aware of our TROUT-DNA Research Project. Membership is open to all TROUT (all spellings) family researchers who do a DNA test to further enhance their ongoing research efforts.

If this may be of interest to you, the following is a link to our project home page. All of our testing is done through our selected labs, FamilyTreeDNA. If you are actually wishing to simply transfer existing results from another lab, please indicate this in the "comment" box on your "Join" request.

It will be my pleasure to answer any followup questions...

All good wishes, Craig H. Trout < [email address removed] >

Peg, Thank you so much for merging the Houghs, it looks good. If you have questions about these families, maybe I can help, ask anytime. Have a great day! Barb

I see that you just did the Pre-1700 Self-Certification. That's great! Is there a particular time period, location, or topic you're interested in? Maybe you have some historically-significant ancestors? Participation in a project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Be sure to also check out our Volunteer Hub to see our projects that really need new members!

Let me know, and I can help you figure out if there's a project that might interest you. Welcome aboard, we are glad to have you!

From the drop-down list under 'My WikiTree' at the very top of your profile, if you select 'Watchlist' you'll be able to see all the profiles you manage. In the column headed Status/ID column you can see the person's Wiki ID. In the far right column you can see an icon for the privacy level of each profile.

Peg, Near the top of each profile there are some tabs, from left to right: Person's name, edit, family tree & tools, changes, and 'Privacy'. Click on Privacy. If you choose 'Private with public biography and family tree', we will all be able to see what is in the biography, including your sources. Click on the small 'radio button' to the left of the privacy level you're choosing, and then click on the button that says 'Set New Privacy Level'.

I can see one profile you imported that is open: Donald Ray Hough-1408. The gedcom import for him includes what appear to be 'sources' but they all just lead to an Ancestry tree, rather than to an actual source for the information.

Peg, When you imported your small gedcom didn't your sources also come in with the import? I tried to look, but all the ones you've imported so far have privacy levels that keep me from seeing what came in with the import. If you have to enter the information manually I recommend that you use the copy/paste function going between your Ancestry records and your WikiTree profiles to enter the sources here also. There really isn't a shortcut. Because we all share ancestors on WikiTree it's really important that you include your source for any information you enter, with enough detail (like page numbers) that someone else can find your source to confirm it. I'm sorry it's feeling frustrating to you.

Hi Peg, I'm glad you decided to try a small gedcom to get started! I hope it goes well. Please remember when you create a new profile to enter your source for the information on the profile. Thanks!

Hi Peg,

I’m sorry that you’re discouraged by the limit on large gedcoms. I’ve found WikiTree to be an amazing place to collaborate with others working on the same ancestors I’m working on—my cousins. I hope you’ll give it a try, entering your parents and grandparents, and then maybe importing a gedcom of about 50 people to start, and to see how importing a gedcom into WikiTree works. Please let me know if I can do anything to help. Kay

Hi Peg, Welcome to WikiTree! I see that you've uploaded 3 large gedcoms. I strongly encourage you to spend some time on WikiTree, entering parents, grandparents, etc. and their siblings, by hand, learning a bit more about WikiTree, before you import a gedcom into WikiTree. When you add a gedcom and some of your people are already on WikiTree, and you correctly skip them, you end up having to go back and manually reconnect parents and children. If you don't skip them, then you have duplicates that have to be merged. I know it sounds like just uploading your gedcom to WikiTree might be faster, but those of us who have worked with WikiTree for some time have found in the long run it's often best to enter them manually. Let me know if I can help. Thanks! Kay
