Biography

Stefano Cascio (sometimes recorded as Castro) is born 25 October 1848 and baptized two days later, named after his paternal grandfather. He is the son of Leoluca Cascio, a farmer, and his wife, Maria di Palermo. His godparents are Michaelangelo Marino and Gaetana Maggiore, a married couple.

Stefano marries Bernarda Mondello on 21 November 1877. Their baptismal records appear together on one certificate in the Church matrimonial records of 1871-78 in Corleone.

Stefano and Bernarda have at least five children: Leoluca Antonino (1879), Maria Rosa (1883), Leoluca (1885), Maria Biagia (1888), and Antonino (1895).

Stefano and Bernarda's first known child is Leoluca Antonino, born 11 February 1879 and baptized two days later as Leonemlucam Antoninum. His godparents are Leoluca Listi and Vincenza Grimaldi, a married couple. He is six years older than the son who immigrates in 1901.

In 1880, Stefano arrives in the port of New Orleans on the Cunna:

49. Stefano Cascio, 31 (b. 1849), laborer[1]

Maria Rosa is born and baptized 25 April 1883 as Mariam Rosam. Her godfather is Stefano Ridulfo, who is unmarried.

Leoluca Antonio dies at four years and eight months of age on 30 October 1883.

Leoluca is born around 1885, based on his age at immigration.

Maria Biagia is born 1 August 1888 and baptized Maria Blasia on 4 August. Her godparents are Paulus Arsena and Carmela Cascio.

Antonino is born 9 January 1896 and baptized two days later. He is the son of Stefano Castro and Bernarda Mondello. His godfather is Giuseppe Cascio. He dies at 12 days of age (b. 9 Jan) on 21 January 1896 at 1:30 am. This record calls him a girl, Antonina.
