Biography

Girolamo lo Cascio is born 22 November 1788 in Corleone and baptized the next day. He is the son of Leoluca lo Cascio and Emmanuela Todaro. His godparents are Giuseppe and Caterina Firmaturi, a married couple.[1]

Girolamo appears in the 1807 stato delle anime, a Church census, living with his parents and a brother, beside the Sant'Elena church in Corleone. Their neighbors include his married siblings Giuseppe, Lucia, and Biagia.

Girolamo marries Biagia Guzzetta[2] on 30 April 1810. Their parents are all still living.[3]

Girolamo and Biagia have at least twelve children: Emmanuela (1811), Leoluca (1812), two sons named Giuseppe (1814 and 1838), Bernarda (1816), Giuseppa (1819), Giovanni (1820), Mariano (1823), Calogero (1824), Rosalia (1827), Benedetto (1830), and Girolama (1834).

Emmanuela is born and baptized on 4 February 1811, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Don Carmelo and Donna Emmanuela Guarneri, brother and sister.
The first son named Giuseppe is born 4 November 1814 and baptized the next day, named after a paternal uncle. His godparents are Antonio and Lucia Puccio, a married couple.

Giuseppe dies on 9 August 1815 at nine months of age.

Giuseppa is born and baptized on 21 January 1819. Her godparents are Maestro Michaele and Caterina di Puma, a married couple.
Giovanni is born and baptized on 27 January 1820. His godparents are Mariano and Carmela Scalisi, a married couple.
Leoluca is born and baptized on 22 November 1812, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Giuseppe and Maria Cascio, a married couple.
Bernarda is born 23 July 1816 and baptized the next day. Her godparents are her paternal uncle Stefano Cascio and his wife, Carmela Streva.
Mariano is born and baptized on 6 February 1823. His godparents are Don Giuseppe Sarzana and Emmanuela Cascio, who are not married.
Calogero is born and baptized on 19 December 1824, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Benedetto and Francesca Gulotta, a married couple.
Rosalia is born and baptized on 11 December 1827. Her godparents are Giovanni Marino and Francesca, wife of Maestro Giuseppe de Luca.

On the same day, Girolamo and Giuseppa Inserra stand as godparents to Lucia, born of unknown parents. Lucia is taken in by the wet nurse Anna Gineo, wife of Giuseppe, in the home of Don Giovanni Sangiorgi and Maestro Pietro Verro.

Benedetto is born and baptized 30 July 1830. His godparents are Domenico and Bernarda Trumbatore, a married couple.
Girolama is born and baptized on 10 February 1834. Her godparents are Leoluca and Bernarda Cascio, brother and sister.

Leoluca marries Leoluchina Lisotta on 25 September 1838.

Five days later, his youngest brother, the second to be named Giuseppe, is born and baptized, on 30 September. His godparents are Bernardo and Vincenza di Miceli, father and daughter.

Rosalia dies two days before her thirteenth birthday, on 13 December 1840.

Giovanni marries twice, first to Salvatrice di Giglia on 22 July 1845.

Calogero marries Gaetana Sanzone on 14 April 1850.

Girolama marries Bernardo Cutrone later that year, on 13 October.

Leoluca dies on 12 May 1853, at age 40.

Leoluca's wife remarries to Leoluca's brother, Mariano. Their first child is born in October 1854. The couple marries four months later, on 10 February 1855. Their marriage record indicates that a dispensation was required, and granted.

Benedetto marries Maria Terregrosso on 23 September 1855.

Deaths of Girolamo and Biagia

Girolamo dies, reportedly at age 72 (he is 67) on 16 July 1856. Biagia survives him.

About two months after his first wife, Salvatrice's death, Giovanni remarries, to Rosa Patella, on 3 April 1869.

Biagia dies at age 80 (b. 1790) on 20 October 1870.

Benedetto dies at age 45 in 1874.

When Leoluchina dies in 1877, her death record does not mention having also been married to Leoluca.

Mariano does not remarry. Mariano dies at age 60 (b. 1823) on 27 August 1883.

Giovanni dies at age 75, in 1895.

Emmanuela dies at age 85 (b. 4 Feb 1811) on 2 August 1896 at 11:15 am, as a Benedictine nun in the Maria Magdalena Monastery.
