Virginia "Virgie" Ballard was the daughter of Isaac Emmerson Ballard (1859–1923) and Mary Ann Rupp (1867–1946), born on 1 Feb 1889 in Pacific Junction, Mills, Iowa.[1][2][3]
Virgie married Franklin Benjamin Shuffler (1888-1919) on 20 Feb 1907 in Mills County, Iowa. They lived in Pacific Junction where Frank worked as a barber and an auctioneer, and they had four sons.[4][5][6][7][8]
Frank Shuffler and Virginia Ballard had the following children:
Frank died in a train accident on 9 Jan 1919 in Pacific Junction and was buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Mills County, Iowa.[9][10][11]
After Frank died, Virgie and the four boys lived with her mother in Plattville, and Virgie worked as a cook in a hotel.[12]
Virgie married Orin Durant Steele (1882–1950) about 1928 in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa. Orin was a U.S. Game Warden. His job was the enforcement of the Migratory-bird Treaty and Lacey Acts for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was posted to Council Bluffs, Iowa, from 1925 to 1927, and after serving in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1928, he was sent to Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland. By 1930, he lived there with his new wife and two of her four sons, Dale and Duane. Orin and Virgie lived in Cambridge through 1939. After a couple of years when he was assigned to Patchogue, on Long Island, New York, Orin was sent back to Plymouth, Massachusetts.[13][14][15][16][17]
Orin died on 30 Sep 1950 and was buried in Dorchester Memorial Park in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland.[18][19]
Virgie remained in Cambridge to be near her sons there. She died there on 4 Nov 1977 and was buried in Dorchester Memorial Park.[20][21]
