Biography

Frank Benjamin Shuffler was the son of Valentine A Shuffler (1853–1916) and Sarah Elizabeth Hatcher (1859–1947), born on 29 Mar 1888 in Republic County, Kansas. His family resided at Rose Creek until after 1895, and lived in Pacific Junction and Plattville, Mills County, Iowa, after 1900.[1][2][3][4]

Frank married Virginia "Virgie" Ballard (1889–1977) on 20 Feb 1907 in Mills County, Iowa. They lived in Pacific Junction where Frank worked as a barber and an auctioneer, and they had four sons.[5][6][7][8][9]

Frank Shuffler and Virginia Ballard had the following children:

Frank died in a train accident on 9 Jan 1919 in Pacific Junction and was buried in Glenwood Cemetery in Glenwood, Mills County, Iowa. His death was widely reported in newspapers throughout the area, and this obituary appeared in the Lincoln Journal Star on 11 Jan 1919.[10][11][12][13]

PLATTSMOUTH, Neb., Jan. 11.--Frank Shuffler, a switchman at the Burlington yards at Pacific Junction, was run over and killed instantly, the wheels of the car, passing over his chest and head, crushing life out instantly. Mr. Shuffler has lived in Pacific Junction for the past eleven years, has barbered all the time until a few months since, when he and his employer, Thomas Martin, both quit the barber shop and went to work switching in order to help the government win the war. He leaves a wife and four small boys.
