DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

I have found the will of John Armitead was transcribed in a Culpeper County court record, Armistead vs. Chapman. It appears his will was dated 24 March 1788 and proved in Caroline County Court 29 July 1788. I'm wondering if the 10 April 1790 date is when letters of administration were finally granted. It named several other of his children. Here is a link to that record. https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/image-details?page=1&place=394942&rmsId=TH-909-53318-23294-30&coverageItemIndex=2&imageIndex=11&singleView=true
