Biography

When Mary Ann Fontaine was born in 1759 in Beaverdam, Virginia, her father, Peter, was 38, and her mother, Elizabeth, was 25. She married Bowles Armistead and they had six children together. She then married John Lewis and they had seven children together. She died on April 5, 1799, at the age of 40.
Mary Fontaine was born in 1759 in Beaverdam, Hanover County, Virginia, the sixth or seventh of eleven children and the first or second of five daughters of Peter and Elizabeth Winston Fontaine.
In 1775, when she was about twenty, She married Bowles Armistead . She bore him five children, two sons and three daughters:
  1. William Bowles Armistead
  2. Peter Armistead
  3. Elizabeth Armistead
  4. Mary Bowles Armistead
  5. Unknown Armistead.
In April 1799, when she was about forty, she died in Fredericksburg, Virginia, of unknown causes.
